The grounds and the river.
The property is located in beautiful Touraine countryside, in the Maulne valley. The building is surrounded by garden, lawns, fields and hills and is away from busy roads and nearby neighbours. A crayfish and trout Maulne river crosses and bypasses the estate.
“The Maulne is a small river that has no history, like happy peoples and honest women.” the sentence that begins contemporary novel “La Lizardière” that Henri Vicomte de Bornier, wrote in 1883. Since his childhood, he spent a lot of time at Château de Marcilly, at his aunts, the Marquise de Rochemore and the Marquise d’Argens, and he had a lot of affection for our region.
We cannot describe our locality better than Henri de Bornier did in the same first chapter of his novel:
“… This corner of Touraine is almost unknown, and it is all the more charming. In autumn especially, when the sun, still ardent, but a little dimmed by the mild mists of Anjou, extends its golden arrows from the high moors of Chalonnes up to the green peaks of Château-la-Vallière, the landscape is admirable. The little river, the long valley, the green hills, barely separated by the miniature river, all this seems to be sleeping under a vault of rays…”
