The Loire Valley Local Area
The Loire Valley has much to offer, from the world famous Chateaux to the beautiful towns and villages, the daily markets, music and jazz festivals, and much much more. Nothing is nicer than a visit to a troglodyte cave on a hot sunny day, then stoping for lunch in a small local brasserie, experiencing the local delicacies and finishing the afternoon on a wine tasting tour, visiting the caves and trying the many fine wines from the local wine growers.
The rich historical sites are a must. Beside the ancient castles, there are many fabulous abbeys and cathedrals. Tours, Saint Gatien’s Cathedral is well worth a visit. Less touristy, but just as remarkable is the city of Vendôme, also worth a day trip is the town of Richelieu.
If you decide to come for holidays with your group of family or friends to this beautiful region, our property is a perfect base for your stay. Moulin de Maulne is available for week-end or weekly rental through out the year. We are situated in the heart of the Loire Valley in a central location giving easy access to Tours, Saumur, Chinon, Angers and Le Mans, surrounded by our own neighbouring historical treasures such as: Château du Lude, the vestige of Château de Vaujours, roman amphitheater of Vaas, Château Golf des Sept Tours with its beautifully kept golf course and many more.

Things to see and do for the whole family.
There are plenty of fun things to do also for the children. One of them is Bioparc, the Zoo at Doue-la-Fontaine which was built in an old quarry, creating a real safari feel. It contains, amongst other things, the largest aviary in Europe, which all children love.
Since our daughter was 3 we’ve also been regular visitors to another park called Terra Botanica, near Angers. It has a strong educational focus as well as a wonderful aesthetic interest, enough to keep everyone happy. We recommend it to all our guests as it is a fabulous way to spend the day in the area of Angers.
The Loire Valley is equally famous for its very rich and diverse habitats. It has many rivers and forests as well as the wide banks of the Loire with its gravel islands, which are a natural draw for wild life. More than 350 species of birds frequent this region, over 200 nest here, and 50 of them are protected by European law.
Moulin de Maulne is situated in its own valley, the valley of Maulne where the river Maulne meets the stream of Gros Puits (Ruisseau du Gros Puits). It is a spectacular site for wildlife lovers. For example, we have a family of coypu that every year brings their little ones out on the lawn next to the river for everyone’s amusement.
Lizards, dragonflies, butterflies that hover around the flowerbeds and the river have always been a rich entertainment for young and old. A large selection of bird species, some more common, like blackbirds, European goldfinch, woodpecker and egret, as well as rarer ones like golden oriole and kingfishers, are great for birdwatchers.
